The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Darren John HUNNIFORD (Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales) and James KIRBY (London, England) and Chris MILNES (Grantham, Lincolnshire, England).

On Monday the 29th of December 2003, as the fire was blazing in the braairoom, we were looking at the amazing sunset... Was this the last day at sea for James?

Darren was scheduled to leave on the New Year's day also, but he decided to extend his stay in Gansbaai for a couple more weeks to enjoy the Sharks some more...

On Tuesday the 30th of December, we went to sea in what looked at first some rough conditions... but although the swell was quite large, we spent another FANTASTIC day with the Sharks... 11 Great White Sharks to be exact! Lately, we have mostly seen small (i.e. under three meter) Sharks, but today one of the Sharks measured around 350cm... and she gave us quite a spectacle!
It is always excting when we have two (or more) White Sharks around the boat at the same time (above)!

Darren finally got the underwater housing for his digital camera... a friend of his sent it by mail over two weeks ago, and after some trouble with the customs, he now can put it to test!

On the 30th of December, Tracey cooked us a delicious (actually fantastic would be closer to reality) seafood Paella Marinera... We ate... and ate... and ate... It was just simply wonderful!

Tracey, Chris, James and Darren went to Cape Town to celebrate New Year's eve the next morning!

On the 31st of December 2003, Tracey, Chris, Darren and James drove to Cape Town to celebrate the New Year... Party! Party! Party! Below are some photographs taken by Chris Milnes during those couple of crazy days (and a Happy New Year message for his girlfriend)...
