The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

TJ BARANEK from Pewaukee (Wisconsin, USA), Alan DUNCAN (Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland), Chris MILNES (Grantham, Lincolnshire, England) and Rhiannon COLLINGBORN (Chippenham, Wilts, England)

Tuesday the 23rd of September 2003... What a day! As soon as we anchored that morning, a Southern Right Whale swam past our boat and just seemed curious about us... Beautiful day! The wind started picking up in the afternoon, but not as much as yesterday, the conditions remaining ideal the whole day! We also welcome Claire Wilcox on board today...
Rhiannon's last week (already!) in Gansbaai... Shark Diving Unlimited was anchored next to us, and when they were finished with their excursion, they invited Rhiannon onto their boat, Stan, to dive into the shark cage... She had a great last dive with the Great White Sharks!
On several occasions today, two sharks were observed swimming close, often approaching the bait at the same time... an amazing sight!

Tom Peschak joined use after his Whale Watching trip with Dyer Island Cruises, with whom he is working on getting photographs of Southern Right Whales...

Among the 11 White Sharks we observed today, two sharks remained around our boat for several hours... we nicknamed them: "Bob" or "Stoner" for the first shark who just behaved in a "under-the-influence" kind of way, and "Speed" or "Jaws" for the second who just was crazy, near breaching at each attempt at the bait... Amazing!
The photographs presented below were taken by Alan Duncan on Monday the 23rd of September 2003...
