The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Susan Marion COGHILL (Tighnabruaich, Argyll, Scotland), Holly FRANK (Surprise, Arizona, USA), Nicola PYLE (Portsmouth, Hampshire, England), and Alex BROWN (Burnham, Slough, England).

On Friday the 17th of September, we welcome back our friend and previous assistant Darren HUNNIFORD for a couple of weeks as a guest...

On Thursday the 23rd of September, the famous Hermanus Whale Festival started... Michael presented a talk about the research on White Sharks in South Africa at the Enviro Talk show. On Friday and Saturday, we drove to Hermanus again... Too many people... too few Whales... they probably all went to the other side of Walker Bay by Gansbaai where there is less noise...

And the sale of products of this Shark species is also illegal in South Africa... but nobody seems to care.
On Sunday the 26th of September we managed to go to sea again after a series of small storms hitting our coastline and bringing some dearly needed rain before the dry summer. We observed nine different White Sharks today. Later in the afternoon, we went to De Kelders to see some Southern Right Whales...
On Monday the 27th of September, Michael, Tracey and Darren drove to Cape Town to get boat equipment and material for new engine covers. Darren would spend his last few days in Cape Town before returning to Wales. Alex, Holly, Susan and Nicky went to sea on board Barracuda, Shark Diving Unlimited's cage diving vessel. They observed three White Sharks...
On Tuesday the 28th of September, we all went to sea again on board Barracuda... Seven different White Sharks in a couple of hours. Alex, Holly, Susan and Nicky all dived into the Shark cage today. But Michael was picked up early from the boat to return to shore... A dead Southern Right Whale had been spotted near Danger Point on Monday. More...
Wednesday the 29th of September was another wonderful day, even though the wind was gusting... Unfortunately, Susan, Holly and Nicky's last day did not turn out to be the most exciting. We only observed two White Sharks and they only remained around Lamnidae for a few minutes.
