The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Mario LEBRATO CAMBLOR (Sama Langreo, Asturias, Spain).

On the 16th of August 2005, we welcomed:

Alexia CURMI from San Gwann in Malta (one of the few and proud countries to have protected Carcharodon carcharias in their waters)

Elsbeth Louise McSTAY from Newport-on-Tay, Fife in Scotland

and

David Anthony JONES from Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK

Andy Brandy CASAGRANDE IV is living in Fishoek on the shores of False Bay where he is assisting Alison KOCK (South African Museum / Save Our Seas) with her research project at Seal Island for the next few months.

Trey SNOW (Wilmington, North Carolina, USA) has been a guest and friend of the White Shark Trust since January 2005, after completing his three months assistantship during October through December 2004.

The assistantship of Greg WRIGHT (Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA) came to an end on the 15th of August, but his return flight to the USA on the 22nd allowed him to stay on for an extra week as a guest.

Timo SECKLER (Ellenberg, Germany) has been our assistant from the 15th of July to the 15th of August, and will continue his assistantship with the White Shark Trust from September through January 2006.

Timo SECKLER and Mario LEBRATO CAMBLOR left for Mossel Bay on the 15th of July to assist Ryan JOHNSON with his active telemetry tracking of White Sharks in the bay.

On Saturday the 20th of August we finally managed to launch Lamnidae again... First day at sea for our new assistants, and possibly the last day for our old assistants, Trey and Greg. Unfortunately, we only observed one White Shark for a few seconds after waiting over four hours. Elsbeth and Alexia did not enjoy the ocean that much however...
On Sunday 21st of August in the evening, we had a farewell braai party for Trey Snow (below right) and Greg Wright (below left). Trey has been with the White Shark Trust since October 2004. Two old friends and former assistants, Andy Casagrande (with the guitar) and Chris Florescu (yellow top) are visiting Gansbaai at the moment.
Our other guests were Frank and his wife Cristina, and Lance (real name: Hercules) and his wife Jean, with their children Jade and Dylan, and Chris' mom. Great party with great friends, even though these moments are always very sad... But Andy entertained and cheered us up with his songs, as well as his many stories which we simply cannot repeat here...
