The White Shark Trust Field Research Assistantship is proud to introduce you to our assistants:

Edward FARRELL (Dublin, Ireland), Clova JURK (Perth, Scotland), Sarah BAHAN (Idaho, USA), and Barney DUNLOP (Bath, England)

Timo SECKLER (Ellenberg, Germany) has been our assistant since the 15th of July 2005. He assisted with the manual telemetry tracking of White Sharks in Mossel Bay during the month of August.

Andy Brandy CASAGRANDE IV has been our assistant, guest and especially friend since September 2003, and he has been living in Gansbaai and assisting the White Shark Trust during most of 2004 and now again in 2005.

On Monday the 21st of November, we welcomed back Andy and Sarah who spent the weekend on the West Coast. And lucky as they are, they saw Killer Whales harassing a Southern Right Whale right from the beach. And here he is, smiling and looking all happy about his luck... probably writing a song about Free Willy...
And another slow day with the Sharks... we observed five different White Sharks today. I am not sure where or what the Sharks are doing... or maybe we just were a bit unlucky... normally the Sharks are great in November. But we have not really spotted many Sharks along the beach either yet. Patience! Clova had time to test the emergency gear at least. She does not trust me...
In the evening, I was invited by three ladies for a home-made pizza evening... Lucky me! I barely escaped the facial mud-avocado-cucumber mask treatment... Jenna, Yvonne and Clova certainly know how to make a great pizza... so I better take back my words from yesterday about the pizzas at the restaurant!
Tuesday the 22nd of November 20005 was a beautiful day... some large swell were rolling into the bay, and the shore transect was just not feasible, but we spotted some Dolphins playing in the surf. We spotted one White Shark just swimming behind the pod of Dolphins... Surf looks good though, and we should go surfing later this afternoon...
Unfortunately, the Sharks were fewer and lazier than ever today... We only spotted three Sharks and only for a few exciting seconds. Boring day, and the pictures I believe show the general sleepy attitude on the boat in between the long waiting periods...
In the evening, our friends and neighbours, Lance, Jean and Jade joined us around a traditionnal South African Lamb and Vegetarian Potjie on the fire... Lance and Jean are the experts and they deserve all the merits for this delicious meal. Some garlic mussels also joined the menu...Very nice evening!
